Dementia Friendly Practice Award

Dementia Friendly Practice Award

Giffard Drive Surgery is one of the first surgeries in Farnborough to receive ‘Dementia Friendly Practice’ award from Dementia Friendly Hampshire and the Wessex Academic Health Science Network

Giffard Drive Surgery has been accredited as a ‘Dementia Friendly Practice’ by Dementia Friendly Hampshire and the Wessex Academic Health Science Network, through their Dementia Friendly Practice Award scheme known as iSpace, and recognised by the Alzheimer’s Society. Practice staff have worked hard to make dementia-friendly changes. These include:

    • Making double appointments available for people with dementia

    • Delivering ‘Dementia Friends’ and specialised dementia training sessions for all staff

    • Appointing a carers’ ambassador to signpost carers to support services that can help them

    • Installing new dementia-friendly signage and artwork

The award was presented by Jane Ward of Dementia Friendly Hampshire on 9 February 2017.

Our Patient Group has worked with us on this project and we are all thrilled to receive this award.  We would also like to thank all the patients and carers who gave up their time to work with us on this initiative.
